JULIA THOMPSON, Ph.D
NEURODIVERSITY COACH
I specialize in providing holistic, empathetic support for neurodiverse individuals and families as they navigate both everyday interactions and significant life transitions. Whether you’re seeking guidance on workplace dynamics, advocating for accommodations, seeking support during a major life change, or wanting to cultivate a deeper understanding of a loved one, I’m here to be your companion on this journey.
By integrating practical guidance with holistic understanding, I help clients set intentions, identify limiting beliefs and past patterns, and transform obstacles into opportunities for growth. My coaching offers a safe, nurturing space to develop deeper self-awareness, feel empowered to make meaningful life changes, and gain confidence in navigating work environments. Together, we’ll work to overcome challenges and build a fulfilling, balanced path forward.
About me
I hold a PhD in Engineering Education from Purdue University and a BS in Chemical Engineering from UC Berkeley. My journey took an unexpected turn while I was helping a close friend secure a university lecturer position. This friend, who was trans, deaf, autistic, had ADHD, and used a wheelchair, faced numerous obstacles in requesting accommodations. Together, we navigated these challenges, working through the complexities of advocating for interpretation services and accessible classroom layouts. This experience became a turning point for me.
In supporting my friend, I came to terms with the fact that I, too, am neurodiverse. This revelation opened up a new perspective on my own experiences and helped me accept parts of myself I hadn’t previously understood. I realized that academia, with its demands, wasn’t aligned with my nervous system. So, I stepped away and began exploring paths that better suited my strengths and passions.
Today, I’m committed to supporting others on their journeys of self-discovery, empowerment, and growth. I bring not only my academic background but also personal insight and empathy to help my clients thrive in environments where they can be their authentic selves.
Testimonials
Working with Julia has helped me solidify how I want to feel emotionally about my work as well as the specific steps I can take (often during sessions!) to get there. She brings a holistic, compassionate, and pragmatic approach to coaching! She meets me where I am, whether I need to think about the bigger picture, or need some more concrete support for the day. She’s able to connect thoughts and feelings that I often think of as disparate to my broader story, whether about how I see my fellow neurodiverse friends thinking about their work, or systems I am setting up for myself for support.
